Dashers hand Carolina first loss of the season

Danville, IL - The Dashers handed the Carolina Thunderbirds there first regulation loss of the season this evening coming from behind and winning by a final score of 2-1. 

Carolina would jump out to a quick 1-0 lead off the stick of CJ Blaszka assisted by Pargac and Pietrantonio time of the goal 3:23 of the first period. Carolina would get the only powerplay of the period when Alex Basey took a tripping call at 6:56. Carolina would out shoot the Dashers 16-9 in the opening frame. 

Period two would end in a stalemate and the T-Birds again outshooting the Dashers 13-9. Alex Basey would be involved in two fights in the frame taking on both Cangelosi and Pietrantonio. Neither team would have a powerplay in the second period. 

Period three would see the Dashers come back tie and eventually take the lead away from Carolina. Brendon Leavitt would notch his first goal of the season with an assist from Marvin Powell at the 7:05 mark and then just three minutes later Daniel Martin would tally goal number seven on the year with help from Marker and Atwell.

Matt Kaludis would get the start in net and he was sensational. Kaludis would earn his third consecutive victory, stopping 42 of 43 shots for a .977 save percentage and first star of the game honors. 

The Dashers improve to 4-1-0-1; 14 pts and end the weekend one point behind Carolina. This week the Dashers welcome in the defending Commissioners Cup Champion Watertown Wolves. Watertown comes into Danville having swept Mentor by scores of 7-2 and 7-4, as they currently sit in third place with 11 points and a .733 win percentage.
